Biographical history
The Versatile Corporation of Toronto was an industrial conglomerate formerly known as Cornat Industries Ltd. that bought Burrard Yarrows in 1984, becoming Versatile Pacific Shipyards.
The two major yards in Quebec also acquired by Versatile became Versatile Davie in Levis and Versatile Vickers in Montreal. The former Burrard yard in North Vancouver closed as Versatile Pacific in 1992 after the cancellation of the Polar 8 icebreaker project. The floating drydock and support buildings at the eastern end of the yard were acquired by a new company, Vancouver Drydock, a partnership between Seaspan and Allied Shipbuilders. Seaspan subsequently acquired Allied's interest in the company. Seaspan also acquired Vancouver Shipyard on the Vancouver north shore adjacent to the Drydock facility. The Versatile Pacific Esquimalt shipyard closed in 1993. Its assets became part of Victoria Shipyard, now a unit in Seaspan Marine Corporation.
