Also includes a draft and published versions of a manuscript titled "The Sea Apprentice: Being an Account of Two Voyages Round the World Under Canvas", by Captain Clifford Fenton. As well as an empty Sperry Gyroscope Company Limited folder, assorted personal and professional documents from Captain Fenton relating primarily to the sale and royalties of his book, assorted Canadian Pacific Steamship ephemera including dinner menus, wine list, pencil drawings, correspondence, receipts, and a memorandum of understanding dating from 1934 to 1939 and 1950 to 1955.

Empress of Asia was built in 1913 by the Fairfield Shipbuilding & engineering Co. Ltd. in Scotland, sponsored by GM Bosworth (wife of the Vice-President of the CPR). She was owned by the CPR from 1913-1942. In 1914-1916, 1918-1919 she was in Admirality service as a troopship, and otherwise was in Pacific service. In 1942 she was bombed by Japanese planes and sunk 16 miles from Singapore. The wreck was salvaged after the war.

Empress of Russia was built in 1912 by the Fairfield Shipbuilding & engineering Co. Ltd. in Scotland, sponsored by Mrs. W. Beauclerk (daughter of Sir T. Shaughnessy the Chairman of the CPR). Owned by CPR in 1912-1945. In 1914-1916 she was an armed merchant cruiser, 1918-1919 and 1940-1945 was a troopship on Atlantic service, and otherwise was in Pacific service.

The file contains correspondence regarding the requisition of the vessel for the Second World War between Captain E. Aikman Manager of the Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd, AA Stephens, FA Willsher, AG Donald the Assistant Superintendent Engineer for Fairfield Shipbuilding, W Metcalf, Ministry of Shipping in London.

Originally built in 1913 in Tacoma Washington in 1918 she was owned by Canadian Pacific Railways Steamships Services and was put on Gulf Islands service. 1930-1961 ownership was transferred to the Gulf Islands Ferry Company. In 1964 she was owned by the BC Ferry Authority and was used on the Swartz Bay – Fulford Harbour Service. In 1966 she was used as a supply store for fishermen.

Fonds consists of papers including A.H. Crocker's engineering certificate (1913), honour roll certificate from public school (1894), and registration of certified marine engineers (1918). Also contains A.H. Crocker's and Frank Crocker's notes. An electrical catalogue, Canadian Pacific place-mats, a map of Alexandria, historical notes on USS Coronis and a timetable of the Gulf Island run. Includes three photographs of A.H. Crocker and an oil painting of Princess Victoria reputed to be done by a cook on the ship. The collection also includes newspaper clippings of CP Ships, employees, and activities as well as a taped interview with A.H. Crocker about the Canadian Pacific dated 15 December 1987.
