The diary is divided into three trips, London to New York on Board the Steamship Danmark from 11 April to 28 April 1877, New York to San Fransisco by train from 28 April to 10 May 1877, and San Fransisco to Cassiar Mines via Victoria, BC on board the City of Panama from 19 May to 16 June 1877. There are also, additional notes up to 1886. Slipped inside the diary is a card for the National Steamship Company, Limited with a plan of the cabin of the steamship Denmark.
