              Series consists of records relating to the correspondence between members of the Steamship Inspectors Office including the Chairman, Senior Steamship Inspectors and Steamship Inspectors, amongst others regarding inspections done before and after the requisition of vessels for the second world war. There is also additional correspondence, including with the owners of the vessels.

              New America was built in 1939 in Victoria by the Armstrong Bros. Shipyards with an Vivian Engine Works Ltd. Engine. She was requisitioned in 1941 for towing and general duties at Esquimalt.
              There is correspondence regarding the requisition of the vessel for the Second World War between AA Stephens, TM Stephen, TH Evans, HG Robinson, JT Edmond, FA Willsher, and Liet. Comdr. R.Sadd (E), RCN Dockyard, Esquimalt. There is also occasional correspondence with the owner T Charlton who is related to Andres and George Ltd.
              The 5 reports from 1945 are: the general condition of the hull, general condition of the machinery and information about the Vivian engine. The reports from 1941 are inspection of hull and the report on general condition of machinery.
