Fonds consists of a handwritten reference letter written by the nephew of Lord Nelson, dated 6 May 1875. It reads "87, Hartford St, Mayfair W. May 6, 1875. The Bearer of this letter, Mr. E. Summers, lived with me as a butler for two years, leaving at his own request. He came to me with a five year character from his last place. Both Lady Nelson and myself are sorry to part with him, and I shall be happy to answer any inquiries. Nelson".

  • Certificate from William B. Pauli, consul of his British Majesty in Buenos Aires to Charles Edward Stewart, dated 26 October 1882, entirely in Spanish,
  • Two handwritten letters dated 18 July and 22 July 1814, signed by W. Steward, HMS San Josef addressed to captain John Phillips, RN and my brother which begins by saying “The French fleet are now in sight” and lists how Stewart wished his property to be divided equally between his son and daughter and enumerating how he wished various effects divided and debts owed to his Coxswain and servant,
  • Commissioning certificate appointing Lieutenant William Stewart as lieutenant of HMS Royal William, dated 15 may 1797,
  • Commissioning certificate appointing William Stewart as commander of HMS [?], dated May 1810.

Fonds consists of a photostat of a Poem called "Chief Douglas's Daughter". It is a poem written by Ben Griffin, prefactor of Boomerang Inn, giving an account of the elopement of Alice, daughter of Sir James Douglas, with Charles Good, the then Colonial Secretary, ca. 1861. Charles Good was the donor's Great Uncle - the "Drake" referred to in the poem was the Grandfather of Montague Drake.
