Fonds consists of a folder containing correspondence between the Stutzpunktleiter (base action leader) of the Nazi Party and the Landesleiter (country director) of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) in San Jose, Costa Rica regarding arrangements of the association known as Kraft durch Freude (Strength Through Joy) in the German Merchantman Weser dating from 1939 to 1940, entirely in German.

And, a folder containing general correspondence of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP). Consists primarily of correspondence related to the M/V Weser between the NSDAP and the Stutzpunkleiter (base action leader) of the Nazi Party dating from 1937 to 1939. Documents are all in German except one crew list which is in Spanish.

Fonds consists of photocopies of documents relating generally to the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Navy and one informational booklet for the centennial of HMC Dockyard, Esquimalt, photocopies of documents related to the service of William Charles Sawyer as a private in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, including civilian occupation references, dating primarily to the 1890s, and photocopies of correspondence relating to the maintenance of the graves of Royal Marines on San Juan Island, including a sketch of the grave site.

Also includes a blank, sample certificate of apprenticeship for the Royal Canadian Navy, a certificate awarded to successful apprentices on completion of apprentice training in an HMC Dockyard, and a Centennial Naval Assemblies booklet produced by the Royal Canadian Navy for the 1967 Centennial Naval Review including photos and texts of naval assemblies.

The article by GE Mortimer titled “Princess Joan’s Last Trip: Three Sad Blasts And She Was Gone” discusses the events and conditions around the last midnight run from Victoria to Vancouver for the vessel under Captain George Black with comments from the captain. It also discusses the capacity during the day and the night for the ferry. The last voyage only had 100 passengers, 14 cars and almost no freight. The newspaper article does not include the date or name of the newspaper from which it came from.

Provided are four photos with corresponding caption. In the first caption there is reference to GE Mortimore’s “All Aboard” on page 2. The people in the photo include: Captain George Black, fireman David Rees working the boiler, Mr and Mrs WE Roskelley, Dorian John, and steward Nick Temofychuk.

The Times newspaper has a two page spread on the death of Lord Nelson, while the back has the regular newspaper personal ads etc. Within this two page spread it covers an account of the naval action surrounding Nelson’s death including how it was “the most cohesive victory that has been achieved by British skill and gallantry”. Within it there was also copies of admiralty notices, Nelson’s last telegraph, prose, and an abstract of the names of the petty officers killed and wounded in the action. There was also section on the Covent Garden Theater proprietors created an elegant compliment to the memory of Lord Nelson.
Lord Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) is a British Naval Commander known for victories in battles such as the Nile in 1798 and of Trafalgar in 1805, where he was killed. He was promoted to captain in 1779 when he was 20 during the American Revolution. He was granted knighthood after the battle of Cape St. Vincent.
Vice Admiral Collingwood (1748-1810) was partnered with Lord Nelson and was Nelson’s ssuccessor in commands. At Nelson’s death Collingwood became commander-in-chief.
