HMCS Patrician Collection

Fonds consists of a collection of engine room registers from HMCS Patrician dating from 1920 to 1927. Each book consists of daily entries signed by the engineer officer, covering approximately three months. The books appear to of Royal Navy or Imperial origin most recently re-issued in December 1916 intended for “Torpedo Boats, Torpedo Boat Destroyers, and Special Ships” and the printed instructions in front are identified as issued by the Department of the Naval Service 1916. Each book also includes pages at the front for recording the names of the engineering complement and pages at the back for recording boiler examinations, repairs, etc.

Fonds consist of a photo album composed of photographs, newspaper clippings, and certificates relating to Owen's work on the S.F. Tolmie. Inscribed by his partner, Gertrude Owen: "Loving Memory of my late husband who served on the S.F. Tolmie Sept 16th 1921."

Fonds consists of a journal prepared by an officer of HMS Daring (on station 1874-1898) in 1879. Contains remarks on mercantile naval courts, references to mercantile shipping acts, and records of correspondence dating from 28 February 1876 to 18 February 1880, referring to Mr. A.N.C. King.

The photograph album includes thirty repair operations carried out by the Bullen yard 1906-1910. The postcard (ca. 1880) is of the officers of the HMS Swiftsure. The photographs are of Admiral Sir John E. Commerell (died 1901), First Naval V.C. Crimean War and of SS Princess Louise on the Fraser River, 1899. Also photographs of the first vessels repaired by Yarrows Ltd. (once Bullen's), Royal Navy Ships, and salvage vessels. Also a drawing (pencil or charcoal) of V.C. Admiral Commerell.

Fonds consists of engine room log books from 16 December 1934 to 17 August 1935 and from 13 of July to 13 December 1941, a chief engineer's log book from CGS Estevan from 16 February 1942 to 24 October 1942, and an engine room log for CGS Estevan from 7 October 1951 to 4 March 1952.

Also includes a report of the Ministry of Transport inquiry into the loss of the motor ship Princess Victoria and findings of the court, dated 1953 and a Marine Cloud Album, containing colour photographs of clouds and relevant naming and identifying information.

Longstaff titled "The Uganda in Action" and "To Commission and To Pay Off", a ship models catalogue exhibited by the Shop Model Society at the second annual exhibition, 1933, and a catalogue of the second exhibition, April 1934 of the Ship Thermopylae, arranged by the Ship Lovers Association of Victoria, B.C.

Also includes a photo album titled "The Warwick Album". Includes photos of ports and whaling stations around Vancouver Island.

Fonds consists of correspondence from Rear-Admiral H.F. Stephenson (Royal Navy Pacific Station) to Lt. Col. G.A.L. Rawstorne relating to mine recommendations by the Admiralty and a reply containing a detailed report and chart with sections contributed by Captain G.E. Barnes and Lt. Poole, Royal Marine Artillery. Chart is of the mouth of Esquimalt Harbour.

Fonds also includes Barnes' photographs of Victoria and Esquimalt area and a mock battle in Beacon Hill Park (Victoria).
