It was built in 1942 in Victoria for the government. From 1942-45 it was in the Fishermen’s Reserve where it served as a patrol vessel and a tender to HMCS Givenchy and HMCS Chatham.
This photo is focused on the bridge and mast with all the satellites, and a half-brick chimney. At the stern of the boat there is an A-frame crane. The annotation on the back say says Navy boat in Esquimalt. It was placed together with three other photos.
Sem títuloThe photo shows 27 men standing on the ship in front of the bridge. The annotation on the back says: This is the crew of the DGS Samson and the Government Surveying party bound for the (illegible) with the initials JSK (James Stanley Keefe). DGS stood for Dominion Government ship and by the 1950s the term Dominion of Canada was no longer used by the United Kingdom. Parts of the image have faded and the card has some slight creases.
Sem títuloThe Princess Marguerite was a small luxury liner built in 1948 in Scotland by the Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Company Limited for Canadian Pacific Steamships. She and her sister ship, Princess Patricia, were designed to run the triangle route between Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle during the summer months. She arrived to Victoria April 6th 1949 and entered service April 28. In the early-mid 1970s she went through a conversion at Yarrows Ltd. She was taken out of service in the 1970s, returned to service in the 80s until her retirement in 1989. Although effort was put into keeping Princess Marguerite in Victoria waters she left in 1992.

This colour fuzzy colour photograph shows a row of cars on the car deck of a ferry. There is a person in the background of the photo. The photo was taken near the stairway up to the passenger decks.
This series of photos show the underwater body of a ship in a drydock that appears to be in for barnacle removal. The focus is on the barnacles that cover the hull, with the photos showing different parts of the underwater body. There are a couple of photos that show the propellers, which also have some barnacles on them along with some bent pieces. It is possible to see a wooden beam between the underwater body and the rest of the hull at midship. In one photo it is possible to see an open cargo gangway door.

Also included are 47 loose album pages.
Fonds also includes an oak box contains mostly photographs from 1963 to 1967 of ships in Victoria. There are a mix of naval vessels, coast guard ships, and various vessels in local shipyards, including Island Tug and Barge.
