DGS stood for Dominion Government ship and by the 1950s the term Dominion of Canada was no longer used by the United Kingdom. Parts of the image have faded and the card has some slight creases.
Photo of the bow of “Southern Cross” docked, primarily the figurehead and ornamentation. The figurehead was made in the likeness of Lord Inchcape's daughter, Elsie Mackay, who disappeared whilst attempting to fly the Atlantic in 1928.

Hood was built in Scotland in 1920, the Repulse was built in 1916, they were built as warships for the British Royal Navy. They visited on 25 June 1924.
