Also includes a souvenir photobook of travel from Prince Rupert, British Columbia to Skagway, Alaska, assorted black and white photographs, unidentified but probably also of the NorthWest coast, and several postcards.

Fonds consists of miscellaneous papers and photos relating to the work of George Phillips at HMC Dockyard, Esquimalt naval stores, his service during World War I, and arctic expeditions.

Fonds includes two Department of Naval Services inspection reports for HMC Dockyards, Halifax and Esquimalt prepared by George Phillips and 11 Department of Naval Services folders containing documents relating to the operation of the naval stores dating from 1917-1922. as well as photocopies of correspondence between George Phillips, V. Stefansson, Mrs. R.M. Anderson, Mrs. Murray, and G.J. Desbarats dating from 1913 to 1915.

Fonds also includes miscellaneous ephemeral related to the Royal Canadian Navy including two issues of "The Naval Volunteer" Magazine dating to December 1915 and January 1916, a Royal Naval Club, Esquimalt account book dating from October 1896 to 31 October 1911, a small painting of HMS Shearwater c. 1911, a pencil drawing of a fireplace with specs c. 1931, a handwritten letter in envelope dated 1912, and a Seattle press club visitor's card for Mr. G. Phillips.

Also includes a small booklet containing information about Canadian Pacific Steamships and a passenger list for the Empress of Scotland sailing from Quebec to Cherbourg and Southampton Wednesday 18 July 1928 as well as a diner menu for Tuesday 24 July 1928 and a lunch menu for Wednesday 25 July 1928. The menus are postcards on the reverse and were collected as souvenirs of a voyage taken by Miss J. Phillips.

Fonds consists of documents relating to the careers of Captain Josiah F. Gosse from 1891 to 1898 and to Captain Douglas McNaughton Gosse from the 1920s to the 1940s.

  1. A 1898 account journal for the schooner Otto kept by Captain Josiah F. Gosse consisting of a ledger of advances of pay and charges for items received by crew members from ship's stores such as tobacco, items of clothing, knives, and sacks of flour. A list at the front of the book shows 45 names including one marked as a deserter and the mate, Mr. Collinson. 26 of the crew have indigenous names and there also appears to have been 3 indigenous women on board. The ledger also shows the net payment to each person.

  2. A Canadian Pacific Navigation Company log book with "Josiah Gosse (1865-1938), chief officer, Islander Pilot House Log" written in pencil inside the front cover. The log book is believed to have been from the Canadian Pacific Navigation Company's SS Charmer, possibly dating to 1891.

  3. Documents relating to the service of Captain Douglas McNaughton Gosse (father of the donor), including correspondence, certificates of competency, certificates of discharge, and registration receipts relating primarily to CGS Estevan but also including various Canadian Pacific Railway British Columbia Coast Steamship Service Princess Line ships, dating from the 1920s to the 1940s.

Includes a screenplay written by Hammer, postcards, newspaper clippings, certificates, citation of valour, and travel photographs including some photographs of a Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and a reel of film taken of RMS Empress of Russia. Also includes several issues of "Serial Waves" dating to 1940 and some drawings and cartoons.
