Barmar was built in 1937 by Boeing Aircraft (Canada) Ltd in Vancouver as a power-cruiser yacht. She was requisitioned by the Royal Canadian Fishermen’s Reserve fleet where she was used as a patrol boat. The file is correspondence between TM Stephen and AA Stephens regarding the return of Barmar to the owners Standard Shipping Co. Ltd (owners during 1937-1945) after her requisition for the Second World War. She has had many owners since, and although she did sink in 2003 her registry was still open as of 2019.

Series consists of records relating to the correspondence between members of the Steamship Inspectors Office including the Chairman, Senior Steamship Inspectors and Steamship Inspectors, amongst others regarding inspections done before and after the requisition of vessels for the second world war. There is also additional correspondence, including with the owners of the vessels.

She was converted into a yacht in 1927 when she was bought by Vancouver based Captain JW Hobbs, and then was bought by Eric Hamber the Lt. Governor of BC. She was requisitioned 1941-1946 for the Fishermen’s reserve and was examination vessel at Esquimalt. In 1940 she was owned by Harry Van Froome. She was requisitioned 1940-1942 as a harbour auxiliary and as a boom defence tug and as a tender at HMCS Naden III in Comox BC.
