The Royal Navy School of Navigation was opened in Portsmouth in 1906 and given the name of one of the sea-going tenders assigned to the school, the gunboat Dryad. The school moved at various times but from 1941 was located at Southwick Park, a requisitioned estate outside Portsmouth. Dryad later expanded to include the School of Maritime Warfare. Both were moved to HMS Collingwood
Composite screw sloop, 940 tons. Fitted as a survey ship in 1886 and served on the Canadian Forces Pacific Station from 1898 to 1911 doing hydrographic surveys. She was sold at Esquimalt, bought by Vancouver Branch Navy League of Canada but then sold for breaking up in 1914.
